Robert Singer, currently director general and chief executive officer of the global non-profit organization World ORT, has been named to assume the most senior professional position, as secretary general, at the World Jewish Congress (WJC). Singer has decades of experience in the public and non-profit sectors, having spent eleven years at the Israel Defense Forces, twelve years in the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office, and fourteen years at World ORT. He currently resides in London.
WJC President Ronald S. Lauder said: “We are delighted that Robert will be joining us at the WJC. He brings a wealth of experience with him from his work in Israel and internationally. He has had tremendous achievements at World ORT, where he also gained a great appreciation for many of our Jewish communities around the world. All of the WJC executives who have met Robert have been impressed with his professionalism, insight and vision and they look forward to working with him in strengthening the WJC’s position as the preeminent representative body of world Jewry.”
Robert Singer said: “I thank Ronald Lauder and the WJC Executive for this appointment, and am very enthusiastic about working with them and the WJC’s member communities and organizations -- many of whom I have already had the pleasure of working closely with in the past –- on the crucial issues currently facing Jews around the world today.”
Singer will assume the position of secretary general at the end of April 2013, and his appointment is expected to be ratified by the 14th World Jewish Congress Plenary Assembly, which will be held in Budapest, Hungary, from 5 to 7 May 2013.
