Israel was hit by more terrorist attacks. In the West Bank, a 38-year-old nurse was killed by a Palestinian terrorist on Sunday, and a pregnant woman was stabbed on Monday morning.
A terrorist stabbed Dafna Meir to death in front of her teenage daughter inside their home in the West Bank settlement of Otniel, near Hebron, on Sunday evening. Meir attempted to fight off the attacker, suffered multiple stab wounds, including to her head.
The attacker then fled the scene and remained at large on Monday. The Israeli Army was pursuing him, an IDF spokesman said.
The attack marked the first time Palestinian terrorists were able to carry out a fatal attack inside a settlement since March 2011, when five members of the Fogel family were stabbed to death in their home in Itamar.
Dafna Meir was laid to rest in Jerusalem on Monday morning. She was a nurse at Soroka University Medical Center in Be'ersheva.
Prof. Yohanan Peiser of the center eulogized her on Monday morning, saying: "Dafna was saving lives here and her own life was taken in front of her children. She always did above and beyond."
“I want to give strength to all the children of the family. All of us are hurting and share in the painful grief. We will find the terrorist, and he will pay the full price for this heinous murder,” said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
South Hebron Hills spokesman Assaf Fassy told the 'Jerusalem Post' that when entering the house, the terrorist was immediately spotted by Meir and three of her children. Two of them fled, but the oldest daughter 17, remained with her mother, Fassy said.
The terrorist stabbed Meir, fatally wounding her and fled when he could not remove the knife from her body, Fassy said. The daughter then called Magen David Adom, he added. Police said they were checking whether the attacker worked in Otniel.
Dafna Meir is survived by her husband Natan and their six children.
More stabbing attacks
Earlier on Sunday a Palestinian attacker was shot dead while trying to stab Israelis at Hativa Square near the headquarters of the Samaria Territorial Brigade outside Nablus. There were no injuries among the soldiers.
On Monday morning, a pregnant Israeli woman in her 30s was stabbed and wounded in a clothing warehouse in the settlement of Tekoa. Michal Froman was in moderate and stable condition, according to medics. She is the daughter-in-law of the late rabbi of Tekoa, Menachem Froman, who was well known for promoting coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians.
A paramedic who treated the woman in Tekoa said she was fully conscious despite her serious injuries. "She had a stab wound in her upper body," he said. Ofer Marin, the head of the Shaare Zedek Medical Center trauma unit, was quoted by 'Israel Hayom' as saying that Michal Froman had suffered injuries to one lung. "She has been treated and her condition is stable," Marin said. "She has been transferred to radiology. The woman is 18 weeks' pregnant and initial examinations indicated that the fetus is healthy. She is fully conscious and her life is not in danger."
Froman's attacker was shot by security forces after fleeing the scene, outside a clothing warehouse in the community. He was being evacuated to a hospital for treatment.
