The World Jewish Congress expressed deep concern over the Brazilian government’s withdrawal from the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).
“The Brazilian government’s decision to withdraw from the IHRA is not only irresponsible, it is deeply troubling, especially at a time when antisemitism and Holocaust denial are on the rise globally. By distancing itself from IHRA, Brazil is turning its back on the international community’s efforts to preserve the memory of the Holocaust and to combat antisemitism. IHRA provides essential tools and resources to confront these challenges, tools that Brazil has now chosen to reject.”
“Brazil is home to the second-largest Jewish community in Latin America, including many descendants of Holocaust survivors. President Lula’s decision abandons them and the values of remembrance and education.”
