World Jewish Congress Foundation (the Foundation)
was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization
in 2005 for the express purpose of earning support
for the World Jewish Congress from American leaders
and donors. Fully accredited by the United
States Internal Revenue Service as a charitable tax-exempt
organization with an American board, the Foundation
engages primarily in fundraising efforts to secure
operating funds and grant money for the World Jewish
Congress, which it disperses at its discretion. The
organization solicits donations through direct mail
campaigns, major donor fundraising initiatives, estate
contributions campaigns, and other activities.
Funds raised by the Foundation are distributed to
the World Jewish Congress via a formal grant process. Under
this process, the World Jewish Congress and its related
entities submit grant requests directly to the Foundation,
which reviews them and then determines who will receive
grants, for what purposes, for what amount, and under
what conditions. The Foundation also receives
and reviews reports on grant award usage and will
take the necessary steps to ensure full compliance
with the Internal Revenue Service and State regulations,
as well as with Federal anti-terrorism regulations.
Organizational Structure
The Foundation is governed by a board of directors.
The number of board members that occupy positions
with other World Jewish Congress entities is limited
to no more than 20 percent.
Ronald S. Lauder, President of the World Jewish Congress, was elected Honorary Chairman of the Board of the Foundation. Mr. Lauder will play an instrumental role in the organization’s fundraising.
Herbert Juli is the Executive Director of the Foundation. His responsibilities include overall management of the Foundation’s national direct mail program as well as major donor cultivation and solicitation. He brings more than twenty-seven years of fund raising successes to the Foundation.
Raised in New York City in a traditional Jewish home by parents who were holocaust survivors, Herb brings a life-long commitment to human rights and Judaism. By working for the Foundation, he believes that his career arc has brought him full circle to a profession dedicated to causes so close to home and heart. Indeed, he is personally aware of the WJC’s seminal work in the field of holocaust reparation as his mother and father were recipients. He feels privileged to dedicate his talents to the WJC Foundation.
